Compared with adolescents, adult orthodontics is more complicated and the following points should be noted: (1) Adult malocclusion is often accompanied by other oral diseases, such as caries, periodontal disease, missing teeth, tooth wear, residual crowns, residual roots, bad restorations in the oral cavity, temporomandibular joint disorders and so on. Therefore, before starting orthodontic treatment, patients should go to the corresponding dental specialties for comprehensive control of dental and periodontal diseases and removal of intraoral restorations, otherwise it will affect the wearing of orthodontic appliances and the movement of teeth. (2) Adults should carry out orthodontic treatment under good oral hygiene conditions, and should pay special attention to the maintenance of oral hygiene in the course of orthodontic treatment by brushing their teeth after meals and going to the hospital regularly to clean their teeth, so as to ensure that the orthodontic treatment is carried out smoothly. (3) Adult growth and development has basically stopped, alveolar bone remodeling is slow, the teeth move relatively slowly, the treatment time required is longer, so be patient with the doctor orthodontic treatment, can not be in a hurry. (4) Adults are prone to relapse after orthodontic treatment, so it is necessary to pay attention to the maintenance after treatment, and wear the movable retainer for as long as possible. (5) Common adult malocclusion includes crowding of teeth, gap between front teeth, anterior teeth inversion (malocclusion), maxillary teeth and jaw bone protrusion, facial asymmetry caused by jaw deviation, etc. For moderate and severe bony malocclusion, it is important to pay attention to the maintenance after treatment and wear the movable retainer as long as possible. For moderate and severe bony malocclusion, moving teeth alone cannot achieve the desired result, and orthodontics and orthognathic surgery are necessary.
