The difference between huang jing, i.e. raw huang jing, and prepared huang jing is in taste and efficacy.
1. Taste difference: raw huangjing has a numbing flavor, which will stimulate the human throat, so it should be concocted before clinical application. Huangjing is steamed to remove the side effects of irritation of the throat.
2. Difference in efficacy: raw huangjing has the efficacy of nourishing yin and moistening the lungs (nourishing the lungs by replenishing the lung fluid), tonifying the spleen, enriching qi and nourishing the kidneys to fill in the vital essence; prepared huangjing has the efficacy of tonifying qi, nourishing yin, strengthening the spleen, moistening the lungs, and benefiting the kidney. The difference between the two drugs is that raw huangjing tends to moisturize the lungs, while made huangjing tends to nourish, such as nourishing kidney yin and tonifying qi and blood, and its tonic effect is higher than that of raw huangjing.
It is important to note that both raw and prepared Huang Jing are contraindicated in people with cold diarrhea and phlegm-dampness (stomach distension and discomfort) and stagnant qi.
If there is a need for medication, it should be used under the guidance of a Chinese medicine practitioner, and should not be used blindly on its own to avoid adverse consequences.
