In adults, the pulse rate is between 70-90 beats/minute and respiration is between 18-24 breaths/minute. In general, the pulse rate varies among children of different ages and decreases as they get older. A newborn baby just born has a heart rate and pulse of about 100-140 beats/min. For young children up to one year old, the pulse is 110-130 beats/min. for infants 1-3 years old, the pulse is 100-120 beats/min. for children 4-7 years old, the pulse is 80-100 beats/min. for older children 8-14 years old, the heart rate and pulse are close to those of adults, with a pulse around 70-90 beats/min.
