Tinea pedis in clinical terms actually refers to tinea pedis, which is a common inflammatory skin reaction caused by a fungal infection. Candida albicans is also a fungus, but Candida albicans is often not a major cause of tinea pedis in patients. The most important fungi that cause tinea pedis are Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton spp. and Trichophyton flocculare. There is a separate category of diseases that are caused by Candida albicans, such as cutaneous candidiasis, genital candidiasis, and respiratory and gastrointestinal candidiasis. Some patients think that having foot odor will cause them to get something like vaginitis, but this is actually not true. Foot odor and mycosis fungoides, which is vaginitis caused by Candida albicans, are different strains of disease.
