Glomerulonephritis belongs to a large group of diseases, and some glomerulonephritis does not need long-term medication, such as acute glomerulonephritis and cryptoglomerulonephritis. Chronic glomerulonephritis usually requires long-term medication.
1. Acute glomerulonephritis: mostly due to streptococcal infection, this type of glomerulonephritis has a certain self-limiting tendency, after standardized treatment. Most of the patients will then get better, generally do not need long-term medication. Some patients with abnormal urine test may need more than 6 months~1 year to return to normal.
2. Hidden glomerulonephritis: If only simple microscopic hematuria is manifested, patients generally do not need medication at this time, and only need regular outpatient follow-up.
3. Chronic glomerulonephritis: some patients need to take long-term medication because chronic glomerulonephritis patients’ condition will slowly progress, and even eventually progress to chronic renal failure, so they need to take long-term medication to slow down the progression of renal function.
Whether long-term medication is needed for glomerulonephritis needs to be judged according to different types of pathology and conditions. It is recommended that patients go to regular hospitals as soon as possible to improve the relevant examinations, clarify the pathology and standardize the treatment.
