Precautions for protective restraint

In order to prevent violent behavior of the patient and protect the patient’s safety, protective restraint can be temporarily implemented as a last resort. The main points of attention are as follows: First, pay attention to the restraint technique when implementing restraints to prevent fractures, dislocations, injuries, and circulatory disorders. Second, do not compress the patient’s chest, abdomen and head and neck to prevent accidents. Third, do not leave after restraint, but accompany the patient and observe the care. Fourth, when the patient is quiet, the restraint should be lifted in a timely manner. At this point, the nursing staff can do psychological care to the patient, explaining and reassuring the patient so that the patient understands what is acceptable behavior. If the patient is still confused, remain silent, but with a concerned attitude, accompany the nursing and continue to observe the patient’s response.
