How to rehab a torn meniscus

Rehabilitation training methods for meniscus injuries are related to the patient’s condition, the treatment methods used and the recovery time. It mainly includes general treatment, joint mobility training, muscle strength training and other treatment methods.

1. General treatment: acute meniscus injuries are firstly treated with non-surgical treatment, common methods such as ice, rest, supportive therapy, etc., which can help patients reduce pain and swelling, and promote patients’ functional recovery.

2. Surgical treatment.

(1) 1 week after surgery: rest is the main focus, and mild functional exercises can be carried out.

(2) 2 weeks after surgery: according to the condition, increase the knee joint mobility, quadriceps resistance training, ankle resistance training, and patients with good recovery can walk with crutches.

(3) 3~4 weeks after surgery: the intensity of functional training, quadriceps and ankle resistance training can be increased, so that the patient’s muscle strength and mobility can be restored to the normal level.

(4) 2 months after surgery: patients can start full functional exercise, such as cycling, running, swimming, etc., but pay attention to the intensity of exercise to avoid secondary injury.

It is recommended that patients should consult the doctor in time and under the guidance of professional doctors, do not exercise blindly to avoid adverse consequences.
