There is no such thing as a single herbal remedy for urinary tract infections in women. Urinary tract infections are categorized as “gonorrhea”, “lumbago”, and “fatigue” in Chinese medicine. Clinical treatment of urinary tract infections in Chinese medicine is more, such as plantain, talcum, Mutong and so on.
1. Plantain: It has the effect of clearing heat and diuretic, cooling blood and detoxifying. It is used for treating heat knotting in the bladder, dysuria (unsmooth urination), gonorrhea (cloudy urine and leukorrhea), summer-dampness diarrhea, epistaxis, blood in urine, liver-heat, eye redness, and throat swelling and pain. It is contraindicated in cases of deficiency and slippery essence.
2. Slippery stone: treating heat drench (burning and tingling during urination, accompanied by frequent urination and urgency, discomfort and traction in the abdomen), stone drench (discharging gravel during urination or sudden interruption of urination, pain in the urethra, intolerable pain in the lower back and abdomen), and urinary heat and astringent pain. Spleen weakness, weak qi, essence of slippery and fever and fluid injury should not be taken.
3. Mudong: It has the effect of diuretic and diaphoretic (improving the problem of dribbling in urine, small volume of urine and inability to pass), clearing fire in the heart, promoting menstruation and lowering breast milk. It is mainly used for feverish drenching and astringent pain, edema, mouth and tongue sores, heartburn and urinary redness, menstrual closure and breast milk, paralysis of the throat (pharyngeal redness, swelling and pain, or dryness, foreign body sensation, or pharyngeal itching and discomfort, dysphagia), sore throat, and so on. Use with caution in pregnant women.
Women with urinary tract infections are advised to seek prompt medical treatment. If medication is needed, it should be identified by a doctor and standardized treatment as prescribed by the doctor.
