Replacement of the cast after the fracture depends on the situation; the cast should be replaced as soon as possible if it appears loose; if the cast is fixed without loosening, it can be replaced without replacing the cast. About 2 weeks after the fracture is fixed, the fracture site is completely swollen and the fixed cast is obviously loose and cannot fix the fracture site well, then the cast needs to be replaced. If the cast does not loosen significantly, it is not necessary to replace the cast, but only to take X-ray film to review the fracture, and the fracture is well aligned, the cast can be removed after the fracture is healed, which usually takes about 8 weeks. After the cast is removed, exercise should be performed under the guidance of an orthopedic surgeon to avoid muscle atrophy and joint stiffness.
