Lowering blood lipids can be done through general treatment, use of statins, cholesterol absorption inhibitor medications, etc. The degree of effectiveness and time varies from person to person. There is no such thing as the fastest and most effective.
1. General treatment: If the symptoms of hyperlipidemia are not serious, it can be improved by eating a light diet, less greasy food, more fresh vegetables and fruits; strengthening sports, moderate exercise; reasonable work and rest, early to bed and early to rise and so on.
2. Taking statin drugs: statin drugs such as lovastatin can be taken to lower LDL and blood lipids. Generally speaking, the effect of statin drugs will appear after 2 weeks, but may produce metabolic disorders of adverse reactions, and lactating women are prohibited.
3. Cholesterol absorption inhibitors: Cholesterol absorption inhibitors, such as colesevelam, can be used to reduce the absorption of lipids from food, lower the amount of LDL and total cholesterol, and lower blood lipids. However, this drug can only treat part of hyperlipidemia and will produce nausea, constipation and other adverse effects, and biliary atresia patients are prohibited.
It is recommended that patients take lipid-lowering treatment under the guidance of a professional doctor, and do not take the above medication on their own.
