Precautions for egg retrieval surgery: Pre-operative instructions 1. 2.Please make sure to get the injection time and inject on time 2 days before the procedure. If the injection time changes for any reason, you should contact the nurse’s desk and explain the situation to the surgeon on the day of egg retrieval. 3.Anaesthetized patients should abstain from eating and drinking after 10:00 pm on the 1st day before egg retrieval, while non-anaesthetized patients can eat and drink as usual. Please do your personal hygiene and remove stool. Please wash off your nails if you are wearing nail polish. Instructions for the day of surgery 1. On the day of egg retrieval, both couples should bring their ID cards (foreigners should bring their passports) and come to the hospital at 8 am to register, have blood drawn and wait for the call at the nurse’s desk. Before entering the operating room, please empty your bladder and do not wear jewelry. It is recommended that anesthetized patients carry a piece of chocolate with them (eat as requested by the doctor after waking up from surgery to avoid post-operative hypoglycemic syncope). 2. Please wait patiently after entering the operating room and do not make any noise. The egg retrieval surgery starts at 8:30 am. Patients without anesthesia will have their eggs retrieved first. There will be pain and discomfort during sterilization and puncture, which is mostly tolerable. Patients under anesthesia will be given intravenous fluids first, followed by egg retrieval. All patients will be operated in sequence according to the doctor’s request, lying on their backs in the gynecological examination position. After disinfection of the vulva and vagina, a fine needle will be used to puncture into the pelvic cavity to retrieve the eggs, which takes about 15-25 minutes. 3. After the operation, the patient was pushed to the awakening room for observation. Some patients may have lower abdominal cramps like menstrual cramps. Ultrasound examination will be performed 1 hour after the operation and those without special conditions can leave the operating room. After proper diet (prepare breakfast or snack in advance) outpatient clinic visit. If you need to urinate, please be sure to have a family member accompany you to avoid fainting and falling. If the ultrasound examination is abnormal or the abdominal pain is severe, you will need to stay in the hospital for observation and related treatment, and you can leave the hospital only if the doctor agrees. Post-operative care 1. Rest for 3 days after egg retrieval. Prohibit intercourse, bathing and strenuous exercise for at least 2 weeks. 2. Pay attention to any uncomfortable symptoms such as heavy vaginal bleeding, severe abdominal pain and distension, cyanosis of the lips and decreased urine output. 3.Regularly, 3 days after the egg retrieval procedure, the available embryos will be selected for transfer. Both spouses should be present at the same time to talk with the doctor and sign the informed consent form whether the transfer is done or not.
