Solution to the formula of Renshu San

Ren Shu San is from “The Introduction to Medicine” (Volume 7), which is composed of ginseng, citrus aurantium, schizandra, gui xin, cornelian cherry, chamomile flower, poria, wolfberry, cypress kernel, and ripened earth, and has the effect of tranquillizing the spirit and fixing the mind, clearing the head and the eyes. It is used in treating bile deficiency (refers to the symptoms of bile deficiency and timidity), with frequent fear and trepidation, inability to lie alone, and unfavorable head and eyes. Chrysanthemum flower, cypress seed kernel, ginseng, gui xin have the effect of tranquilizing the mind, wolfberry, schizandra, cornelian cherry have the effect of tonifying the liver and kidney, citrus aurantium has the effect of regulating qi and broadening the middle (regulating the qi of the spleen and stomach) and eliminating stagnation and flatulence, and ripened huangdi has the effect of tonifying blood and nourishing yin and benefiting the essence to fill in the marrow. Therefore, Renshu San has the effect of tranquilizing the mind and clearing the head and eyes. Its adverse effects and contraindications are not clear. The above formula should be used by TCM practitioners after diagnosis and avoid self-medication, and if symptoms occur, it should be consulted in hospitals.
