There is no absolute answer as to how soon an infant can be weaned from night feeding. Theoretically, infants can try to wean slowly from nighttime breastfeeding when they are 6 months old or above, and you can make your own arrangements according to your own and your infant’s actual situation.
1. If night feeding seriously affects the sleep of the baby and the mother and causes great disturbance, this is the time to think of ways to wean night feeding. Theoretically, most babies need only one morning milk at 4 to 5 o’clock when they are more than 6 months old. In other words, when the baby is older than 6 months, based on the reasonable addition of complementary foods and the arrangement of the amount of milk, it is already possible to slowly wean off the night milk.
2. The method of weaning off night milk: formula-fed babies, you can reduce the amount of each feeding, or dilute the formula powder. Breastfeeding babies, you can reduce the number of feedings or shorten the feeding time. Weaning from nighttime milk should be done gradually, not suddenly.
3. If nighttime breastfeeding doesn’t bother the baby or the mother in any way, the mother can continue nighttime breastfeeding as she wishes.
