Radiotherapy can have an impact on breast cancer implant placement. Radiotherapy following breast implant reconstruction surgery can have a number of complications and may affect the cosmetic outcome of the reconstruction; complications of radiotherapy combined with prosthetic reconstruction include infection, seroma, contracture of the envelope, displacement of the prosthesis, rupture or leakage of the prosthesis, and removal of the prosthesis; with contracture of the envelope being the most serious complication. There is evidence that radiotherapy leads to higher rates of reconstruction failure, which in turn leads to higher rates of re-hospitalization or re-surgical treatment; in terms of satisfaction, undergoing radiotherapy reduces the level of satisfaction with breast shape, reconstruction outcome, psychological state and physical state. It is recommended to communicate fully with the doctor before surgery and to follow the doctor’s instructions to actively cooperate with the treatment, and not to act on your own to avoid adverse consequences.
