What causes blood in the stool in advanced esophageal cancer?

Esophageal cancer generally refers to esophageal cancer. Blood in stool in late stage of esophageal cancer may be caused by cancer involving gastroesophageal conjunction, or cancer metastasis to intestines, liver and other organs. Esophageal cancer is a malignant tumor of epithelial origin in esophagus, and its etiology is relatively complex, which may be caused by nitrosamines, long-term alcohol consumption, smoking, bad dietary habits, fungal toxins and other factors. There are no obvious symptoms in early stage of esophageal cancer, but choking sensation and foreign body sensation behind the sternum may appear when eating, and progressive dysphagia and persistent retrosternal pain may appear in middle and late stage. When lower esophageal cancer involves the gastroesophageal union, it may cause patients to vomit blood or have blood in stool. With the development of the disease, cancer cells may invade adjacent parts, manifesting as hoarseness, dyspnea, hemoptysis, shock, etc. In serious cases, death occurs. In addition, esophageal cancer metastasized to intestines may also show symptoms of intestinal cancer such as bloody stool, mucus stool, diarrhea and constipation. Besides, when esophageal cancer metastasizes to liver, it may lead to varicose veins in the abdomen, and if the varicose veins rupture, the symptom of having blood in stool will occur. Once diagnosed with esophageal cancer, patients should actively cooperate with doctors to take relevant treatment measures to avoid delaying the condition. Most of the patients can improve the quality of survival after standardized treatment, thus improving the prognosis.
