Tonifying the Middle Jiao Qi Tang is a Chinese herbal formula from “Discussing and Confusing Internal and External Injuries”, which is effective in tonifying the middle Jiao Qi and elevating Yang to lift the sunken organs (to elevate the Yang Qi of the body in order to lift the sunken organs). It is made of Astragalus, Radix et Rhizoma Glycyrrhizae, Radix et Rhizoma Ginseng, Radix Bupleurum Chinense, Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Tangerine Peel, and Rhizoma Aspergillus, and is known to tonify the middle Jiao Qi and raise Yang to lift sunken organs. Tonifying the middle and benefiting the qi is the main treatment for the syndrome of qi deficiency of the spleen and stomach, which is characterized by reduced diet, tiredness and limb weakness, lack of qi and laziness (lack of strength, not wanting to speak), yellowish color, and scanty stools; and the syndrome of qi deficiency and submergence, which is characterized by prolapse of the anus, uterine prolapse, prolonged diarrhea and dysentery, and disintegration of the menstruation (excessive menstruation or more than a few drops of menstruation), accompanied by shortness of breath and lack of energy. Tonifying the middle and benefiting the qi can also be used to treat qi deficiency fever syndrome, which is characterized by heat and spontaneous sweating (involuntary sweating during the daytime, aggravated by the slightest movement), thirst for hot drinks, shortness of breath and fatigue.
