The more you measure, the higher your blood pressure.

The higher the blood pressure is measured, it may be caused by the patient’s mental stress. There are some patients who experience elevated blood pressure when their blood pressure is measured in the office, or in the hospital, and this condition is called white coat hypertension. If you want to further assess whether there is an abnormal blood pressure, or if you want to make a definitive diagnosis of whether it is hypertension, it is recommended that ambulatory blood pressure monitoring be done to assess the overall blood pressure over a 24-hour period, which can prevent abnormal blood pressure due to stress. Patients are advised to be more relaxed and to get enough sleep the night before the checkup so that the most accurate blood pressure can be measured. If hypertension does exist, it is recommended to actively treat it with oral antihypertensive medication and to find out what is causing it.
