The exact cost of replacing a heart, also called a heart transplant, is about 200,000 yuan at a local city hospital. In other areas, the cost is not easy to determine and should still be based on the local rates. To replace a heart, the donor must first be provided, usually for brain-dead patients whose hearts have not stopped beating, and the recipient has severe cardiomyopathy, which is irreversible with drugs or other treatments, before a heart transplant is performed.
