What are the symptoms of bone metastasis of lung cancer?

The skeletal system is a common site for blood-borne metastasis of lung cancer. Bone metastases are generally asymptomatic in early stage, and bone isotope scan can detect lesioned bones. With the development of metastatic cancer, the symptoms of bone metastasis are related to the site and number of tumor metastasis. For example, chest pain caused by rib metastasis of lung cancer is mostly manifested as pain confined to the chest wall area with clear pressure points. Spinal metastasis causes pain in the middle of the back or the lesion area, while bone metastasis in the limbs or trunk causes limited pain in that area. Bone metastasis is not a direct cause of life threatening lung cancer patients, but if the tumor metastasizes to the weight-bearing bones of the body, such as cervical, thoracic and lumbar vertebrae, it can cause serious consequences of paralysis, therefore, patients with bone metastasis from lung cancer should be treated in time. Some lung cancer patients may already have bone metastasis when they are discovered. Some patients are finally detected to have lung cancer because of bone metastasis, pain in a certain bone or pathological fracture. This is because the cancerous tissues erode the bone tissues and cause the bone to become osteoporotic, which can lead to fracture when weight is sometimes applied or when there is a slight external impact. In addition, if the cancer cells metastasize to the spine, it leads to compression of the spinal cord and nerve roots, causing radioactive pain, low back pain, numbness of limbs, muscle weakness, paralysis, etc. Therefore, in patients with obvious symptoms, in addition to these conditions, there are also symptoms such as cough, blood in sputum, fever and other basic manifestations of lung cancer.
