Is it better to have swollen lymph nodes that hurt or not?

Painful lymph node enlargement is seen in inflammatory diseases, i.e. benign diseases, while non-painful lymph node enlargement is seen in malignant diseases, such as metastasis of tumors. From this point of view, the situation of painful lymph nodes may be relatively better, but such judgment is not absolute, and one should not only consider whether the lymph nodes are painful or painless, to determine whether the patient’s condition is very serious or not. In addition, the patient’s own medical history, general symptoms, and other signs found on examination should be combined to make further judgment, and a variety of tests may be needed, such as ultrasound of the lymph nodes themselves, or even biopsy of the lymph nodes.
