Ultrasound is usually helpful in confirming the diagnosis if the renal malformation contains more fat; however, if it contains less fatty tissue, the diagnosis is usually not confirmed. The final diagnosis depends on pathologic findings.
A renal malformation is a benign tumor of the kidney composed of blood vessels, smooth muscle and fatty tissue.
If the renal malformation is rich in adipose tissue, it is usually diagnosed when the ultrasound shows strong echogenicity because the adipose tissue is very different from the surrounding tissue.
However, if the tumor is a fat-poor type of renal malformation, it is easy to be confused with renal cancer and other diseases due to the small amount of adipose tissue in the tumor, so it usually needs to be combined with renal CT and arteriography to confirm the diagnosis.
If patients suspect that they have renal stenoma, it is recommended that they seek medical advice in time for diagnosis and treatment under the guidance of a doctor.
