Should I operate on a 5-6cm kidney cyst?

For patients with renal cysts of 5~6cm, surgery is generally recommended.
Kidney cysts are common kidney diseases in adults, mainly seen in around 50 years old, more common in men than women, the main clinical manifestations are abdominal pain, abdominal mass, hematuria and so on. According to China’s 2014 edition of renal cyst diagnosis and treatment guidelines surgical indications are as follows:
1. For simple renal cysts with a diameter greater than 4cm, patients are recommended to undergo ultrasound-guided renal cystocentesis.
2. For renal cysts with the possibility of malignant transformation, it is recommended that patients undergo timely surgical treatment, and common surgical methods include laparoscopic nephrectomy or partial resection.
3. For multiple renal cysts, if the affected side of the patient has lumbar and abdominal distension and pain, abdominal mass and other discomforts, it is recommended that the patient should have timely surgical treatment, and it is recommended that ultrasonic renal puncture treatment.
4. For parapelvic cysts, when there is pressure on the renal pelvis, which leads to hydronephrosis, and when the patient develops lumbar pain on the affected side, renal function impairment and other manifestations, surgical treatment is recommended.
Renal cysts directly in 5~6cm, meet the indication of cyst diameter greater than 4cm after the recommended surgical treatment. The commonly used surgical method is laparoscopic renal cyst decapitation. There is also a certain risk of recurrence after surgical treatment, so patients are advised to go to the hospital for regular review.
