How to reset a dislocated jaw on your own

A dislocated jaw, also known as a TMJ dislocation, should be reset by a doctor; it is not easy to do this on your own, and the jaw should be immobilized after resetting to limit mouth opening. TMJ dislocation can be reset by placing the patient’s head and back against a wall, wrapping the doctor’s thumbs in sterile gauze, placing the thumbs on the occlusal surfaces of the patient’s posterior teeth, and placing the four fingers of both hands on the lower edge of the patient’s mandible, and then while the thumbs of the two hands press the mandible backward and downward, the four fingers will be pushed upward toward the end of the patient’s chin, and at the same time gently pushed backward, and then the patient can be reset. Temporomandibular joint dislocation is a disease caused by opening the mouth wide, yawning, etc. After the disease has been reset by manipulation, a bandage brake should be used to limit jaw movement for about 2~3 weeks, during which the patient’s mouth should not be opened for more than 1cm. If TMJ dislocation is diagnosed, please follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
