Standing for a day may cause the legs to become thicker, mainly due to edema of the lower limbs caused by prolonged standing. After standing for a day, most patients will have more or less edema in the lower extremities, but there are large individual differences. This condition is particularly severe in patients who are in poor physical condition, have been standing for a long time or have not exercised regularly before. After this condition occurs, patients do not need to be particularly worried, as it is only temporary. The thickening will be relieved in a short period of time if the fluid in the interstitial spaces of the tissues is allowed to drain in time. Patients are advised to take the following treatment measures after standing for a day and experiencing thickening of the leg: 1. Cold compresses should be applied as early as possible. If the area is relatively large, it is recommended that the patient can use ice for cold compresses. If the swelling is confined to the foot or calf, the patient can use a foot soak with cool water. 2. Patients should use a pillow to elevate the swollen limb during nighttime sleep to help reduce the swelling. 3. Patients can also apply safflower oil or Yunnan Baiyao spray to the swollen area, and then assist with appropriate massage.
