The hemoglobin count is not exactly the same for children of different ages, with newborns having the highest hemoglobin count, and the common upper limit of hemoglobin for newborns can reach 14-18 grams. As the child grows and develops, the hemoglobin count begins to gradually decline, and can reach a state basically equal to normal at the age of 3-6, which is about 11-14 grams. However, this is normal on line, and children are anemic at any age if they are below 11 grams, and need to be further examined for the cause of anemia and then treated symptomatically.
