Thyroxine Tablets Usage and Dosage

Thyroxine tablets are to be taken as prescribed by the doctor and the common starting dosage for adults is 10-20mg per day. Thyroxine tablets are mainly used for the treatment of hypothyroidism due to various causes. The initial dosage for adults is 10 to 20 mg per day, which is gradually increased to a maintenance dosage of 40 to 120 mg per day, with a few patients requiring 160 mg per day. The complete replacement dose for infants and children is affected by age, with the average daily dose being 8 to 15 mg for children less than 1 year of age, 20 to 45 mg for children 1 to 2 years of age, 45 to 60 mg for children 2 to 7 years of age, and 60 to 120 mg for children greater than 7 years of age, with the initial dose usually being 1/3 of the complete replacement dose. Adverse effects of this product include euphoria, palpitations (rapid heartbeat, often accompanied by panic), arrhythmias, angina, nervousness, insomnia, muscle weakness, sweating, and vomiting, which usually occur with overdosage and resolve on their own after dosage is reduced or the drug is discontinued. Tachyarrhythmia, coronary heart disease, angina pectoris patients are prohibited. It is recommended that patients who are unwell go to a regular hospital in time and follow the doctor’s instructions for symptomatic treatment.
