What is the prognosis of liver cancer?

The prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma depends on the early or late stage. Early stage hepatocellular carcinoma has a good prognosis, while most of the late stage hepatocellular carcinoma has a poor prognosis. Not all patients are within this period. Some patients are found early and have only small liver cancer or focal lesions, and some of them may even achieve a cure after interventional or surgical treatment. If the patient is at an advanced stage, with complications such as gastrointestinal bleeding, hepatic encephalopathy, wasting, anemia, hypoproteinemia, etc., the prognosis is worse and the life expectancy will not exceed one year. Therefore, patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma are mainly treated with symptomatic treatment and palliative care, while early stage patients can be treated with surgery, radiofrequency ablation or hepatic artery embolization.
