Carboprost Methyl Suppository is one of the more commonly used prostaglandin preparations to promote uterine contractions. There are two ways to use this medication: First, orally, by placing the medication under the mother’s tongue, where it is absorbed through blood vessels under the tongue’s mucosa, thus promoting uterine contractions. Secondly, two capsules of Carboprost suppositories are placed in the anus of the mother to promote uterine absorption by acting on the mucous membrane of the rectum. Since this drug is a prostaglandin preparation, it should not normally be used in patients with asthma and glaucoma.
