How is mitral regurgitation treated?

Mild mitral regurgitation generally does not require treatment. This is because the normal heart has a large reserve function and a very high compensatory capacity. A small amount of regurgitation is not a significant hemodynamic change, and the compensatory capacity is sufficient to compensate. Exceptions are severe cases, complex cases, and a few new patients. Moderate or severe reflux requires medical attention. The cardiologist will treat the patient differently depending on the underlying disease, the degree of reflux, the impact on the heart, the speed of progression, and other factors. This includes regular follow-up, medication, surgical repair or valve replacement. You will need to see a cardiologist.
