Hashimoto’s thyroiditis may affect menstruation, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, also known as autoimmune reactive thyroiditis, is an organ-specific autoimmune reactive inflammation that occurs in the thyroid gland. Patients do not have typical clinical manifestations, but mainly show elevated levels of anti-thyroid peroxidase autoantibodies and thyroglobulin antibodies in the thyroid function tests. During the course of Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, there may be transient hyperthyroidism, or hypothyroidism due to damage to the thyroid gland caused by Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. Hashimoto’s thyroiditis itself does not affect menstruation, but abnormalities in thyroid function, such as hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, can affect menstruation. Therefore, patients with Hashimoto’s thyroiditis should have their thyroid function checked. Hashimoto’s thyroiditis itself does not require treatment, but if there is an abnormality in the thyroid function, it needs to be treated accordingly.
