Stomach tests include barium meal of the upper gastrointestinal tract, gastroscopy, capsule endoscopy, and testing for Helicobacter pylori, all of which should not be eaten prior to the test, although the exact time of fasting varies.
Stomach examination mainly includes the following aspects:
1. Barium meal of upper gastrointestinal tract: fasting is required before contrast, the day before the examination should be semi-liquid, and it is not advisable to eat after 10:00 p.m. No bismuth, calcium and other medicines should be taken in the first 3 days, so as to avoid residual in the intestines to affect the observation of the upper gastrointestinal tract.
2. Gastroscopy: any food residue attached to the gastric mucosa will affect the observation of gastroscopy, so it is necessary to fast for 8 hours and forbid water for more than 2 hours before the examination. For patients with poor digestive function, the time of fasting and water fasting should be prolonged. Those suspected of having gastric retention need to extend the fasting time or gastric lavage first.
3. Capsule endoscopy: Generally, the day before the examination, you can eat a semi-liquid diet for dinner, and the day of the examination, you should fast and abstain from food and drink. For people with constipation, it is generally recommended to start eating a low residue diet two days before the examination, and eat a liquid diet for dinner the day before the examination. Intravenous nutritional supplements can be given to those who are in poor physical condition.
4. Helicobacter pylori test: carbon 13, carbon 14 breath test should be fasted two hours before the test.
