Guillain-Barre syndrome is an autoimmune disease of neurology, due to autoimmune causes the body to produce antibodies, and in the case of antigen and antibody binding into immune complexes, its attacks the patient’s nervous system, causing demyelinating changes in the nervous system. Because of the patient’s causative factor, this antigen-antibody complex is mainly deposited in the plasma and tissues, and plasma exchange mainly removes the immune complexes from the plasma while replenishing an equal amount of plasma. Therefore, plasma exchange is an effective and emerging treatment for Guillain-Barre syndrome. However, plasma replacement therapy still has its shortcomings, for example, plasma is a blood product after all, and the biggest danger of blood product input is infection and allergic reaction, which cannot be avoided. Therefore, plasma exchange is an option when conventional drug therapy is not effective.
