How to sweep away the tail of disease

A patient asked, “I have been taking the medication for 3 months, but at first I had a lot of skin lesions on my body, and after 2 or 3 weeks I got a big part of it, but then there was a small piece of skin lesions left on my head and a small piece on my elbow, and the change was very slow. When will it be completely healed?” This is a common problem, and the author calls this phenomenon “the tail of disease”. Diseases are the result of deviations in human health. According to the principle of “knowing the source of the disease”, we should know why we have the disease, so that the disease can be completely cured. The essence of drugs is to correct the deviation, to treat the result of the disease, or the role of drugs is only to reverse the disease as soon as possible, so that the patient’s quality of life quickly improved. The real treatment for the cause is the continuous change in the patient’s habits of life after his own enlightenment. People are born healthy (inherited diseases that are born are in the minority and not in the scope of this article), and some bad habits accumulate over a long period of time to produce the disease. Thus, the real cause of the disease lies in the patient himself, and the complete treatment depends on the patient himself. The use of drugs to treat disease is measured, and this has been clearly stated in the Nei Jing: “To treat disease with great poison, remove six of ten; to treat disease with constant poison, remove seven of ten; to treat disease with small poison, remove eight of ten; to treat disease without poison, remove nine of ten …… without making too much of it to hurt its righteousness.” When using the most peaceful drugs to treat, only “nine out of ten”, then the remaining “one”? It is the “tail of the disease”. How can it end? In Chinese medicine terminology, we need to keep changing ourselves and then wait for the “waiting qi to come back”. The complete cure depends on the change of one’s own habits. This is suggested in the “Nei Jing Su Wen Wu Chang Zheng Da Lun”: “The cereal, meat, fruits and vegetables should be nourished by food”. “Food and nourishment” is an example of a change in lifestyle, but it is far from the whole picture. If you think of a doctor as a prescriber of medicine, then it is no longer the doctor’s duty to “nourish the grain, flesh, fruit and vegetables”. But if you think of a doctor as a coach or advisor for healthy living, it is still a doctor’s job. Few people are consciously healthy, so they need to be monitored. Even for those who hire doctors as their health coaches and advisors, it is not realistic to accept the supervision of doctors, but it is realistic for the “tail of disease” to do the supervision. Thus, the meaning and role of the “tail of the disease” should be valued and respected. In this regard, the role of a good doctor is to identify the positive effects of the “tail of the disease” and guide the patient on the right path to health by following the right direction. At this point, do patients still ask the question mentioned earlier? “When will I be completely cured?” This is not a question that the patient should ask the doctor, but rather a question that the doctor should ask the patient. The patient is the subject of treatment, not just the words written in the book, but also its practical guidance, this is very important, we understand, right?
