Swollen feet and eyes of the elderly may be related to malnutrition, kidney disease, heart disease, hypothyroidism and so on.
1. Malnutrition: some elderly patients have heavier taste and higher salt intake, so it will cause swelling symptoms; some elderly patients have insufficient protein intake due to poorer appetite, which causes hypoproteinemia and leads to swelling.
2. Kidney diseases: caused by various kidney diseases, such as nephritis, diabetes mellitus, nephrotic syndrome, which will cause a gradual decrease in sodium excretion of the kidneys, water-sodium retention, and hypo-proteinemia, leading to swelling of the feet, usually accompanied by swelling of the eyes.
3. Heart disease: heart failure can also cause sudden swelling of the feet, especially after waking up in the morning, which can be gradually reduced after activities.
4. Hypothyroidism: A low metabolic syndrome caused by low concentration of thyroid hormone in the blood due to various reasons. Typical hypothyroidism patients face for mucous edema face, mainly manifested as facial, eyelid swelling, as well as lip and tongue hypertrophy, yellowish color, and rough, dry skin, patients with little or no sweat, slow reaction and other low metabolic symptoms.
Elderly people with symptoms of swollen feet and eyes, need to go to the hospital as soon as possible for examination, to clarify the cause of the disease, to take targeted treatment.
