Many outpatients are very worried about the small nodules (hypoechoic foci) found by ultrasound, and they always hope to eliminate all the nodules by medication or massage. In fact, in the opinion of our doctors, some small nodules can be observed, and even if they exist for a long time, as long as there are no suspicious factors on physical examination and imaging, and the nodules remain unchanged, they can “coexist” with them. Just like we all have some moles on our skin, people may not be familiar with “malignant melanoma”, so they are very relieved about the moles and do not ask to have them all removed or laser spotted. In fact, “malignant melanoma” is a more dangerous malignant disease than breast cancer. However, even so, doctors do not recommend removing all moles, because it is only logical to target them. Likewise, breast nodules also depend on the specific situation. If the doctor thinks that it is possible to observe and wait and see what happens, it is better to take it easy and follow up regularly. Of course, because the observed cases are usually not biopsied, the diagnosis of malignancy cannot be completely ruled out, only that there are few details consistent with malignant features, judging from the available evidence. That is why multiple follow-ups are needed, in order to i.e. minimize damage and minimize missed diagnoses. You should not just remember the first half of the sentence “no need for surgery”; but forget the second half of the sentence “regular observation”.
