Loratadine tablets are used to treat some coughs. Loratadine tablets are antihistamines that reduce the sensitivity of the airways and are mainly used to assist in the treatment of allergic coughs. Patients with allergic coughs, such as post-cold cough or cough-altering asthma, have increased airway sensitivity and some patients may also have allergic rhinitis with post-nasal hypothermia due to clear nasal discharge, which can aggravate the cough. Loratadine tablets are not the mainstay of cough treatment. Patients need a combination of other medications, such as cough suppressants, inhaled corticosteroids and sometimes anti-infective drugs. Therefore, loratadine tablets are used as an adjunct to cough treatment and should be used only when the needle is right.
