Freckles are brown, dotted pigmented spots commonly found on the face that can be passed on to children. Studies have found that people with a family history of freckles are much more likely to have children with freckles. Family aggregation of patients may be associated with autosomal dominant inheritance. The onset of freckles is around 5 years of age and is predominantly female. It occurs on the face, mainly on the nose and cheeks. Typical lesions are light brown to brown pinpoint to rice grain size spots, round, ovoid or slightly irregular, scattered distribution, not fused with each other, and the number varies. In addition to genetic factors, sunlight exposure is the first factor that induces and aggravates freckles, which is affected by ultraviolet radiation, often aggravated in spring and summer, and alleviated in fall and winter. Therefore, freckles are caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. When freckles appear in children, they can go to regular hospitals for consultation and treatment under the guidance of doctors.
