Autologous cranial repair is the use of one’s own cranial bone to repair the area of cranial defect. Autologous cranial bone repair is to put the removed cranial bone flap in a cold refrigerator for aseptic sealing preservation, after a period of time to perform cranial bone repair surgery, and then thawed the frozen cranial bone, with titanium nails fixed in the head of the patient, so as to maintain the normal intracranial pressure as well as to protect the brain tissues from external damage. Cranial bone repair is usually applied after decompression surgery with debridement due to high cranial pressure or even cerebral hernia. Cranial bone repair can be done with autogenous cranial bone, or with titanium mesh to shape the cranial bone and then repair the cranial bone if the autogenous bone is severely damaged or there is no storage condition for autogenous bone. The duration of cranial bone repair is usually about 3 months after the debridement and decompression surgery, but the duration may be adjusted according to the patient’s own situation. If there is any discomfort, seek medical attention and treatment under the guidance of a medical professional.
