What are the sequelae of septic spondylitis?

Septic spondylitis may have sequelae such as abscess formation, sinus tract formation, compression of nerve root or spinal cord, etc. Active treatment can effectively prevent the occurrence of sequelae.
1. Abscess formation: due to bacterial and other pathogens infecting the spine, causing local inflammation, without early treatment, localization of paravertebral abscess is formed, and the patient may experience local swelling, pain and other symptoms.
2. Sinus tract formation: commonly found in septic spondylitis that does not heal for a long time and connects with the outside world, causing long-term necrotic tissue exudation.
3. Compression of nerve root or spinal cord: due to the local abscess compressing the spinal cord or nerve root or leading to infection of the spinal cord and other tissues, it can lead to weakness of the lower limbs, change of sensation or urinary retention and other symptoms, and even paraplegia symptoms in some patients.
