Effects of Amiodarone

Amiodarone, can be used to control tachyarrhythmias. It is indicated for atrial arrhythmias (atrial flutter, transrhythmia of atrial fibrillation and maintenance of sinus rhythm after transrhythmia); junctional arrhythmias; ventricular arrhythmias (treatment of life-threatening ventricular pre-systole and ventricular tachycardia and prevention of ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation); arrhythmias with the W-P-W syndrome. The main electrophysiological effect is the prolongation of action potentials and the effective period of inactivity in all myocardial tissues, which contributes to the elimination of refractory excitation. Inhibits the inward flow of fast sodium ions in the atria and myocardial conduction fibers, slowing conduction velocity. Decreases sinus node autoregulation. Possible adverse reactions with amiodarone are sinus bradycardia, atrioventricular block, hypotension on sedation, constipation, nausea, vomiting discomfort in a few, hepatitis, allergic rash, and interstitial pneumonitis or alveolitis in a few patients. It is contraindicated in the following conditions: abnormal thyroid function or previous history, iodine allergy, pregnancy (especially in the middle and second trimesters) and lactation, second or third degree AV block without pacemaker, double bundle branch block, sick sinus node syndrome. Drug use should be in strict accordance with medical advice.
