How to check for cerebral infarction

The examination of cerebral infarction has five major blocks: 1. imaging examination, including head CT or MRI multimodality examination. 2. vascular assessment, including MRA and CTA of head and neck segment, carotid ultrasound, transcranial Doppler, foam test, etc. 3. structural assessment of heart, including cardiac ultrasound. 4. rhythm assessment of heart, including routine ECG or 24-hour or even 48-hour ECG examination. 5. 5. Blood system examination, including routine blood count, platelet count, coagulation function, blood glucose, lipids, etc. After evaluation, depending on the situation, further tests may be required, including angiography or vasculitis indicators. Angiography may include whole brain angiography, or DSA, and blood tests, including hemodynamic and hypercoagulability tests. Through a series of tests, the cause of cerebral infarction can be evaluated, and then targeted treatment can be carried out according to the cause. In addition, some patients have cryptogenic strokes, that is, strokes with rare causes. Further tests may be needed: 1) genetic tests, including mitochondrial disease or CADASIL; 2) vascular assessment, cellular immunology, cerebrospinal fluid examination; 3) cardiac structure, including cardiac CT or CTA; 4) prolonged cardiac rhythm assessment and tumor screening to detect cryptogenic stroke. The screening can be done through a series of screening tests to detect cryptogenic stroke.
