There are no acupuncture points for ankle sprains. Conventional treatment of ankle sprains include Qiu Hui, Zhaohai, Taixi, Kunlun, etc. The principle of selecting acupuncture points is based on localization, with Zhaohai and Taixi as the main points for inner ankle sprains, and Qiu Hui and Kunlun as the main points for outer ankle sprains, which can be used in conjunction with tendon management and restorative techniques.
Qiu Hui is the original point of the foot Shaoyang bile meridian, located in the lower front of the ankle, in the lateral depression of the long extensor tendon of the toes, which can treat all kinds of pain, and due to the localization of the outer ankle, it can treat sprains of the outer ankle.
Zhaohai and Taixi are both distributed on the foot-shaoyin-kidney meridian; Zhaohai is located below the tip of the inner ankle and Taixi is located between the inner ankle and the Achilles tendon. Acupuncture of Zhaohai and Taixi can nourish yin and tonify the kidneys, support kidney qi, and can treat inner ankle sprains.
Kunlun is an acupoint of the foot solar bladder meridian, located between the outer ankle and the Achilles tendon. Acupuncture can promote localized blood circulation in the ankle and dredge the meridians, which is good for low back pain and outer ankle sprains.
It should be noted that patients with ankle sprains should first go to the hospital for X-ray examination to clarify whether there is a fracture and joint dislocation, if there is a fracture and joint dislocation should be first in the restoration of the first auxiliary acupuncture treatment, do not self-acupuncture.
