What to do if you have severe hemolysis in your blood tests

Severe hemolysis, including serosanguineous disease and disorders of bead production anemia, can be treated with general therapy, medication, and surgery. At the same time, it is necessary to review the test results to exclude factors such as hemolysis caused by blood sampling.
1. Serrapeptosis: the main symptoms are dizziness, nausea, vomiting with yellow staining of skin and sclera during hemolysis, strong tea-colored or soy sauce-colored urine, which may be accompanied by hepatosplenomegaly, and in severe cases, systemic failure may occur.
Treatment mainly includes general treatment, elimination of triggers, and avoidance of all drugs that can lead to aggravation of hemolysis. At the same time, oral sodium bicarbonate can be used to alkalinize the urine, and dexamethasone infusion can be considered, thus reducing the hemolytic reaction. In addition, large doses of vitamin C can be used, and blood transfusion can be used if necessary.
2. Pearson’s anemia: generally there are different manifestations depending on the degree. Sclera and skin yellowing can still be seen during exacerbation, and some patients may have symptoms such as hepatosplenomegaly and developmental delay, as well as bony changes.
Folic acid can be supplemented for the treatment of severe, intermediate forms of disorders of pearl protein production anemia and hemolysis. Blood transfusions are needed if necessary. Deferiprone therapy with drugs such as deferoxamine is also needed to prevent iron overload. In severe cases, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation or splenectomy can be performed.
3. Review of test results: Hemolysis caused by blood sampling operation should be considered. For some tests such as routine blood test, potassium test, blood glucose test, etc. will affect the accuracy of the indicators, and need to redraw blood test.
There are other reasons for severe hemolysis in blood tests, such as transfusion-related acute hemolytic reaction, etc. It is recommended to consult a doctor in time to identify the cause of the disease and treat the cause. The above medications should be used in accordance with the doctor’s prescription.
