What are the treatments for chronic purulent sinusitis?

The treatments for chronic purulent sinusitis are medication, surgery, and physical therapy.
1.Drug treatment:
(1) Intranasal decongestant. It can reduce the swelling of nasal cavity and sinus mucosa to improve sinus drainage.
(2) Nasal glucocorticoids. Such as budesonide, mometasone furoate, fluticasone propionate, etc., can reduce the inflammatory response of the nasal mucosa, and the common adverse reactions are rhinorrhea, cough, bronchospasm, etc..
(3) Antibiotics. Such as anaerobic infections need to apply metronidazole or tinidazole, and those who have not identified the causative organisms choose broad-spectrum antibiotics.
(4) Mucolytic agents. Can thin the nasal cavity, sinus secretion, in order to promote mucus discharge and help the recovery of the physiological function of the nasal cavity and sinus.
(5) Anti-allergic drugs. Applicable with allergic rhinitis and (or) asthma, such as oral leukotriene receptor antagonists, oral or nasal antihistamines.
(6) Antifungal drugs. Used for sinusitis caused by fungal infection, such as fluconazole.
3. Surgical treatment. Including maxillary sinus puncture irrigation and nasal endoscopic nasal function surgery.
4. Physical therapy. Infrared rays, short-wave heat and other physical therapy are commonly used to promote the inflammation to subside.
If diagnosed with chronic purulent sinusitis, it is recommended to consult a doctor for standardized treatment as soon as possible. All of the above medications should be used under the guidance of a doctor, and should not be used blindly on their own to avoid adverse effects.
