Scars, also known as keloids, are categorized as hyperplastic keloids, keloids, and atrophic keloids. They can be eliminated by topical application of silicone preparation, medication, laser treatment, surgery and other methods.
1. Silicone preparations for external use: Silicone patches are used externally to inhibit scarring. It has certain curative effect, but cannot eliminate the scar. The principle of application is early and lasting.
2. Drug therapy: drug injection is currently commonly used glucocorticosteroids, such as trimethoprim and compound betamethasone. The drug must be injected into the scar, which can achieve the inhibition of fibrous tissue proliferation, so as to achieve a better therapeutic effect. At present, there are also oral drugs, such as trinitest capsules, used to inhibit the growth of scar and reduce the discomfort of the symptoms.
3. Laser therapy: In early clinical practice, pulsed dye laser is often used to treat scar congestion, and is often combined with local injection of drugs to inhibit the proliferation of keloid scars. For proliferative scarring, super-pulse CO₂ laser treatment can achieve better results.
4. Surgery: For severe and extensive scarring, surgical excision of scar tissue has a certain effect on hyperplastic scarring and keloid scars. However, the recurrence rate of surgery alone is high, so after surgery, early combination of local drug injection and other treatments can reduce recurrence.
All of the above medications are recommended to be taken under a doctor’s supervision and not to be used on your own.
