Is it better to remove gallbladder stones or to preserve them?

Cholecystectomy and biliary lithotripsy are two types of surgical methods for treating gallbladder stones, each with its own advantages and disadvantages, and should be chosen according to the condition and personal wishes.

1. Cholecystectomy: Cholecystectomy is a commonly used treatment for gallbladder stones, mainly including traditional open surgery and laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The advantage of cholecystectomy is that it can completely cure gallbladder stones, and there will be no recurrence of gallbladder stones after the operation. The disadvantage of cholecystectomy is that it is prone to complications such as post-cholecystectomy syndrome.

2. Biliary lithotripsy: The advantage of this procedure is that the gallbladder can be preserved, the physiological function of the gallbladder is less affected, and it is less traumatic to the human body. The disadvantage is that it is difficult to remove small gallbladder stones completely, the probability of recurrence of gallbladder stones after the operation is high, the condition is prone to recurrence, and is basically not recommended.

Biliary lithotripsy is not recommended. Patients with gallbladder stones should actively seek medical attention and be evaluated by a specialist physician who strictly grasps the indications and contraindications for surgery and performs cholecystectomy if the indications for removal are met.
