There are several possibilities for a lump on the inner thigh. First, if it is a female patient, a swelling may appear below the inguinal ligament and on the lateral side of the pubic symphysis, which does not exclude the possibility of a femoral hernia. The swelling can increase when the intra-abdominal pressure increases with activity and disappear when resting or lying down. If a swelling appears at the root of the thigh in a male patient, it may also be an inguinal hernia, either a straight hernia or a hiatal hernia, with a smaller incidence of femoral hernia. Also, a lump on the inner thigh may be caused by tuberculosis, or a metastatic tumor or malignant lymphoma. In this case, the swelling is mostly not accompanied by redness, swelling and pain, and the swelling may increase painlessly and progressively, in which case it is necessary to go to the hospital for cytological or histological aspiration or pathological examination to clarify the cause and then treat it. If the swelling on the inner thigh is accompanied by redness, swelling and pain, the possibility of lymphadenitis is considered, and anti-inflammatory treatment is needed.
