Symptoms of babies with hydrocephalus include increased head circumference, enlarged and bulging fontanel, widening of cranial sutures, thinning of hair, and sun-setting eyes, etc. Due to individual differences, the specific clinical symptoms may vary. As the baby’s fontanel is not closed, increased intracranial pressure occurs after hydrocephalus, which is manifested by increased head circumference, frontal parietal protrusion, widened and bulging fontanel, widened cranial sutures, flattened top of the head, markedly sparse hair, dilated veins of the scalp, a small face, a large head, a thinning of the skull, and the sound of a broken can in the skull on percussion. With the increase of hydrocephalus, the orbital apex will be thinned and shifted downward by compression in the late stage, so that the eyeballs will be downwardly rotated by compression, and the upper iris will be exposed, and the sunset sign will appear. Enlargement of the third ventricle affects the midbrain, eye movement disorders and pupillary reflex disorders occur, the cerebral cortex is thinned by pressure, and the child’s mental retardation may be accompanied by convulsions. When hydrocephalus is suspected, it is necessary to go to the hospital as soon as possible for early treatment to avoid delay in treatment.
