Is there a downside to cataract surgery?

Any surgery has risks. Cataract surgery is an ophthalmic surgery, and the common risks of the surgery include intraoperative hemorrhage, postoperative infection, lens dislocation, posterior cataract, and so on. 1. Intraoperative hemorrhage: During cataract surgery, incisions need to be made and manipulated inside the eye. Patients may suffer from intraocular hemorrhage, resulting in eye pain and increased intraocular pressure. 2. Post-operative infection: Post-operative cataract infection is a very serious complication, which can cause necrosis of retina, iris and other tissues, and even atrophy of the eyeball, and if the infection is not controlled, the eyeball may need to be removed. 3. Lens dislocation: Lens shift is a common postoperative complication of cataract surgery. In this case, surgery should be performed to adjust the shifted lens to the normal position, otherwise, it will cause patients’ vision loss and discomfort. 4. Posterior cataract: Posterior cataract is the most common postoperative complication, which is caused by the proliferation of residual crystalline epithelial cells, and patients may experience vision loss. It is recommended that after cataract surgery, patients should follow the doctor’s instructions, have regular checkups, and consult the doctor in time when discomfort occurs.
