Can I have strabismus in both eyes in one operation? Strabismus is different from other eye diseases, as most children with strabismus suffer from both eyes. Most children with strabismus are affected by both eyes. The right eye sees with the left eye strabismus and the left eye sees with the right eye strabismus; the surgery can be done by adjusting the muscles of either eye, as long as the axis of vision of both eyes is aligned. Therefore, it is possible to operate on one eye at a time or both eyes. It does not mean that strabismus is serious if you operate on both eyes. Which strabismus requires two surgeries? Some strabismus does require two or three separate surgeries. For example, children with vertical strabismus combined with horizontal strabismus will have some effect on their horizontal strabismus after having vertical strabismus surgery. They will need to do the surgery in several times, and there are more cases of splitting the surgery abroad. At present, the majority of hospitals in China solve the problem in one surgery. However, the disadvantage of one surgery is that the two types of strabismus will affect each other and the postoperative effect may be poor; the advantage is that the risk of multiple surgeries is reduced.
